Minutes of the ISMVL-2000 Plenary Session

Present:       ISMVL-2002 Attendees

 

The meeting began at 5:05 P.M.  The Chair welcomed all present.

 

1.      The agenda was approved as presented.

2.      The minutes of the ISMVL-01 Plenary Session were approved as circulated.

3.      Executive Subcommittee Report: The Chair gave a report from the Executive Subcommittee. He noted the following:

a)      T. Sasao attended the Computer Society, Technical Activities Board  (TAB) meeting at Portland (May 8).

b)      The domain www.ismvl.org has been purchased. The site will host the MVL bulletin, as well as information on past and future symposia.

4.      Symposium Subcommittee Report: This report consisted of a series of reports on individual symposia.

a)      ISMVL-2002 –D. Simovici reported that there were 55 registered participants. The number is not large, but satisfactory, considering the current economy. The conference will have a small surplus. The chair thanked Prof Simovici for the well  run symposium.

b)      ISMVL 2003 – Prof. Mukaidono outlined the plans for the symposium in Tokyo. The call for papers with the program committee is available at www.ismvl.org.

c)      ISMVL 2004 – Prof. Sheikholeslami proposed Toronto as the site for the 2004 symposium. The ULSI workshop will be arranged in conjunction with the symposium. The Chair called for a show of hands and the proposal to host ISMVL-2002 in Boston was approved unanimously.

d)      Future ISMVL – Rumania and Sweden are possible sites for ISMVL 2005. Formal proposals will be considered at the Plenary Session at next yearfs ISMVL in Tokyo.

5.      Elections

The position for one member at large is vacant. Radomir Stankovic (2003-2005) was nominated. Elected by acclamation.

6.      Other Business:

a)      D. Simovici advised that the MVL Journal has switched publisher. It is now published by Taylor and Francis. There is a steady stream of papers.

b)      Lutz Micheel encouraged participants to submit chapter to a book which will be edited by M. Perkowski. So far, three chapters have been submitted.
