Message From the TC Chair

Dear Colleague, in this first message as chair of the MVL-TC, I would like to thank you for the trust you expressed by electing me. I am honoured to serve you and I will do my best to live up to the expectations.

It is my sincere pleasure to thank the past chair, Prof. Gerhard Dueck, for his outstanding work on behalf of our community.

One of the goals I hope to achieve during my term is the better integration and coordination of research in the field of multiple-valued logic. I think that ISMVL, celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, is an excellent platform for this. I am,therefore, gratified about the following two trends that can be observed at ISMVL 2000: first, symposium chair Prof. Marek managed to coordinate ISMVL smoothly with some high-class conferences and workshops; second, the technical program includes several first-time appearances at ISMVL of members from the AI and proof theory communities. I hope very much that these trends will continue.

If you have any suggestions of how to make ISMVL even more attractive to new audiences, please let me know.

I would like to take this opportunity and invite every MVL researcher to come to Portland and participate in ISMVL 2000. The program and symposium chairs put together a very good technical program, which is even more enhanced by an excursion to Intel Corp. and a panel discussion with representatives from industry and academia. The program is rounded off by no less than 7 invited presentations covering the full spectrum of multiple-valued logic.

Symposium chair Prof. Marek has set up an informative web site at http://www.ee.pdx.edu/~mperkows/ISMVL/=index2000.html.
Here you will find the technical program, related events, registration form, hotel information, Portland area attractions, etc. If you plan to participate in ISMVL, be sure to register before April 19, 2000 in order to benefit of the reduced fee. It is advisable to make hotel reservations as soon as possible.

I am looking very much forward to see you in Portland in May.
